K.I.S.S.
I know. You opened this one because you were looking for something salacious. Well, after you figure out, I have not set up a kissing booth at my house welcoming all who will stop by, I hope you keep reading. Because this is important. Well, important to me anyway. Time will tell if you agree.
You see I am a nerd. I love books. I love libraries. I love taking classes. I crave meaningful, intellectual dialogue. So exhibiting intelligence is important to me. It is probably at the top of my list when describing the characteristics I most desire to see exhibited in a person. Okay, maybe the second or the third but it's definitely in my top 5.
But when I see or hear people (speakers, preachers, teachers, etc.) using big, complex words and intentionally talking over people's heads to show off their intellectual prowess, I throw up a little bit in my mouth.
You are not a genius just because you KNOW a lot of information.
You are not even a genius if you can regurgitate a lot of facts, figures, and formulas.
You are only genius material if you can translate complex, dense information into a simple, clear form that the average lay reader can understand.
My goal in life is to K.I.S.S. everything!
I want to take in all that I encounter and process, decipher, and explain it in such a way that it is digestible to anyone I interact with, be it in conversation or through the blogs, songs, and books I write.
I am genius material because I am a translator.
Takeaway Question: What is your Zone of Genius? What do you do so well that when you see it done badly, you throw up a little in your mouth? Please share. I'm listening.
